Suomen Palautuspakkaus Oy, Palpa, is the maintainer of the beverage packaging return system in Finland. The administrator's job is to arrange the recycling or reuse of packaging and the management of the pawns. Palpa is the largest supplier of beverage return packaging systems in Finland.
The pawn return system in beverage packaging has made Finland the most reputable beverage packaging returners in the world. The return rate of different packaging is over 90 % and the system re-manufactures tens of thousands of tons of recycled aluminum, plastics and glass. The functionality of the return system is based on the ease of return and the dense network of points of return, for example, in connection with shops, which in turn requires good logistics management and scheduling of collection routes.
Palpa designs and manages part of the glass recovery system's collection logistics by using the Ecomond TCS system. The system is used by transport companies and they get scheduled to-do lists through it. In addition, updated driving instructions for the system make it easier for drivers to work. Transportation planning and route optimization make collecting as economical as possible and reduces the environmental impact of transport.
The TCS system also provides statistics on the number of emptied containers, driven kilometers and hours worked. The TCS system collects data from multiple sources and compiles the necessary reports for tracking backlogs and for driver declarations.
"With TCS, we can see real-time traffic on the field, enabling us to streamline transport, significantly increase collection points and save on costs. Furthermore, with the data, based from the TCS system, we can make direct account transfers, which reduces work hours in billing and checking," says Palpa Logistics Director Marjo Olkkonen.
Compared to earlier, the TCS system has intensified transport logistics and provided an up-to-date view of the overall return system performance.
